The Best Defense is a Good Offense. by biorifle

Format: Commander

Commander: Plagon, Lord of the Beach

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Plagon, Lord of the Beach leads a tempo-control deck that exploits creatures with toughness greater than power. The primary game plan uses the commander's ETB to draw a huge hand, then repeatedly blinks Plagon and other value creatures to generate card advantage. A stax/tax subtheme-featuring Archon of Emeria, Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, and Loxodon Gatekeeper-slows opponents while the deck builds a board of high-toughness threats. The main win condition is combat damage, often amplified by Baldin, Century Herdmaster or Plagon's activated ability to assign damage equal to toughness. Backup plans include Preston, the Vanisher plus Cathars' Crusade for an explosive token army, and a potential Thassa's Oracle finish if the deck can draw through its library. The abundant blink spells provide both value and protection, but the deck lacks tutors, making its draws inherently inconsistent.
