Deck overview

This deck executes a focused Boros Voltron strategy helmed by Lightning, Army of One. Lightning combines first strike, trample, and lifelink with Stagger, a devastating ability that doubles all subsequent damage dealt to an opponent once combat damage connects. The deck leverages equipment tutors and low-cost augmentations such as Hard-Won Jitte, Inquisitor's Flail, and Buster Sword to achieve extreme damage scaling. Because Lightning has first strike, granting double strike causes Stagger to resolve during the first-strike damage step, quadrupling normal combat damage on the regular strike. Combined with additional combat step engines like Karlach, Fury of Avernus, Aurelia, the Warleader, and Relentless Assault, the deck can eliminate opponents in rapid succession. Protection staples like Commander's Plate, Grand Abolisher, and Teferi's Protection shield the commander during critical attack windows, while Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar converts single-target commander damage into an immediate table-wide threat.
