Hakbal of the Surging Soul by cousin_steve12

Format: Commander

Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul is a single-faced commander who runs a Merfolk explore engine: every Merfolk explores at combat, gaining +1/+1 counters while Hakbal's attack trigger converts lands into free drops or draws. The primary plan is to flood the board with low-cost Merfolk and token producers, multiply counters with Branching Evolution, Hardened Scales, The Earth Crystal, and Ozolith, and finish through unblockable combat damage. Secondary paths are the Merfolk anthem/lord package and the Kumena/Emperor Mihail card-advantage chain. There is no hidden commander; Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca is the strongest backup engine. Realistic wins are alpha strikes after Herald of Secret Streams, islandwalk lords, Thassa, or Rogue's Passage.
