Deck overview

This deck is a Simic Merfolk kindred strategy led by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The primary game plan revolves around flooding the battlefield with low-cost Merfolk creatures, utilizing Hakbal's combat trigger to trigger Explore across the entire team, and rapidly scaling board power with +1/+1 counters and lords. As creatures explore, the deck simultaneously filters draws, places lands onto the battlefield, and builds a dominant board presence. Evasion is achieved through Islandwalk enablers like Lord of Atlantis paired with Harbinger of the Seas, or outright unblockability via Herald of Secret Streams. The deck protects its expansive creature base with efficient interaction, including Heroic Intervention, Ripples of Potential, and Vodalian Hexcatcher. While vulnerable to repeated sweepers and reliant on combat damage over multiple turn cycles, the consistent card flow and mana acceleration provided by Hakbal make it a resilient and aggressive midrange threat.
