Rowan V1 by Matthat

Format: Commander

Commander: Rowan, Scion of War

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Rowan, Scion of War is the deck's engine: lose a large amount of life in one turn, activate Rowan as a sorcery, then cast a heavily discounted Torment of Hailfire for X=14 to drain all opponents. Treasonous Ogre is the hidden commander, converting life directly into mana and setting Rowan's discount. Secondary paths use Peer into the Abyss to draw into the kill, Heartless Hidetsugu to halve life totals, and Aetherflux Reservoir as a lifegain payoff, with Gray Merchant as a backup drain. The deck is a glass-cannon combo deck that leans on painlands, rituals, and tutors; if Rowan is denied, the remaining cards are mostly expensive removal and big spells.
