Deck overview

This deck is a Golgari midrange strategy built around Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, focusing on -1/-1 counter distribution, deathtouch token generation, and aristocrat drain engines. In the early game, the deck deploys Hapatra on Turn 2 and connects to produce deathtouch Snake tokens while shrinking opposing creatures. Midgame turns leverage synergistic permanents like Nest of Scarabs, Obelisk Spider, and Insidious Roots to multiply token production and generate recurring life drain. Creature attrition is reinforced by Savra, Queen of the Golgari and recurring sacrifice fodder like Reassembling Skeleton. The deck closes out games around Turn 8 through wide combat damage boosted by Vraska, Swarm's Eminence or Bounty of Might, combined with direct life loss from Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Cauldron of Essence. While the deck features strong creature combat suppression and resilient graveyard recovery, it is vulnerable to mass board wipes, possesses limited instant-speed stack interaction, and relies on combat steps to secure victory.
