Deck overview

This Bant deck is led by Arcades, the Strategist, turning inexpensive, high-toughness defender creatures into efficient beaters and repeatable draw engines. The early game establishes a board of low-cost walls and ramp pieces such as Overgrown Battlement, Wall of Roots, and Wall of Omens. Once Arcades enters on Turn 3 or 4, every subsequent defender replaces itself while contributing significant combat damage. The deck exerts rapid pressure through asymmetric board wipes like Slaughter the Strong and Wave of Reckoning, which eliminate opposing creatures while sparing 0-power defenders. Lethal combat damage is closed out using toughness-boosting instants like Tower Defense and unblockable enablers such as Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive. Dense functional redundancy in backup 'butt-fight' enchantments ensures the deck functions reliably even under targeted commander removal.
