Deck overview

This Mono-Black Rat tribal list floods the board with twenty Rat Colony and supporting tokens, then wins through pumped combat, aristocrats drain, or a Marrow-Gnawer plus Thornbite Staff loop. Rat King, Verminister is a two-mana engine that makes a Rat and grows whenever something leaves your battlefield, and can sacrifice three Rats to reanimate a creature plus every other card of that name - a mass Colony revival. Lords like Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm and Karumonix, the Rat King (toxic) turn the swarm lethal, while Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Ayara, First of Locthwain, Mirkwood Bats, and Gray Merchant of Asphodel drain the table. Buried Alive, Living Death, Patriarch's Bidding, and Reanimate rebuild and feed the commander's same-name trigger. The commander accelerates that plan but is not required; the swarm, the combo, and the drain package all function from the ninety-nine.
