Format: Commander

Commander: Kokusho, the Evening Star

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

Kokusho, the Evening Star is a mono-black death-and-reanimation drain deck. The primary plan is to cast or reanimate Kokusho, sacrifice it, and repeatedly return it to trigger its five-life death drain against each opponent. Secondary paths use Gray Merchant devotion and aristocrat payoffs like Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat, amplified by Vito, Sanguine Bond, and Enduring Tenacity. A compact loop with Reassembling Skeleton, Pitiless Plunderer, Ashnod's Altar, and Nim Deathmantle can turn Kokusho into an outright combo kill. There is no double-faced or hidden commander; Kokusho itself is both the engine and the finisher.
