Deck overview

This deck is a Simic Merfolk tribal aggro engine commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. Its primary objective is to curve out with low-cost Merfolk during the first three turns, deploy Hakbal on turn 4, and exploit his combat-step trigger to explore across the entire team every turn. This engine simultaneously filters the library, fills the hand with lands, places +1/+1 counters on the team, and cheats additional lands onto the battlefield whenever Hakbal attacks. The deck transitions into a lethal threat around turn 6, utilizing tribal lords, evasion enablers like islandwalk and flying, and asymmetric board wipes such as Wave Goodbye. While it excels at card velocity and steady midgame scaling, its reliance on a creature-heavy board state makes it vulnerable to sweepers, mitigated primarily by selective instant-speed protection like Ripples of Potential and Inspiring Call.
