Deck overview

This Gruul deck uses partner commanders Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood and Alena, Kessig Trapper to create an explosive big-mana stompy engine. Gilanra sits in the command zone as dependable Turn 3 ramp that draws a card whenever you cast a spell costing six or more mana. Alena follows on Turn 4, converting the power of large creatures into massive bursts of red mana. By Turn 5, casting a six-power creature with Gilanra draws a card and allows Alena to tap for six or more red mana, letting you immediately deploy a second massive threat such as Apex Devastator, Kogla, the Titan Ape, or Warstorm Surge. The deck relies on high creature redundancy to maintain pressure and finishes games around Turn 7 using overwhelming combat damage with trample enablers like Craterhoof Behemoth and Garruk's Uprising. Its main vulnerabilities are susceptibility to creature sweepers and a near-total absence of instant-speed interaction.
