Deck overview

This deck is a Rakdos group slug engine built around Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The strategy pairs passive burn permanents—such as Razorkin Needlehead, Roiling Vortex, and Ankh of Mishra—with Valgavoth's ability to grow and draw a card whenever an opponent loses life on their turn. Because the slug pieces reliably damage opponents during their upkeeps, draw steps, or land drops, Valgavoth routinely draws three cards per table rotation while swelling into a lethal aerial threat. Acceleration from two-mana rocks ensures a fast start, while high-impact cards like Sheoldred, the Apocalypse and Descent into Avernus accelerate the table's life loss. Free interaction like Deflecting Swat and Deadly Rollick protects the commander and breaks parity. The deck wins by grinding opponent life totals down with unavoidable burn and evasive commander combat.
