Deck overview

This Gruul aggressive deck utilizes the Background pairing of Karlach, Fury of Avernus and Raised by Giants to convert commander damage into a swift clock. By turning Karlach into a 10/10 Giant with built-in extra combat phases, the deck reliably threatens 20 commander damage on Turn 5. A robust suite of 10 low-cost ramp pieces ensures consistent deployment of its 5-mana and 6-mana commanders ahead of curve. The 99 supports this beatdown strategy with damage doublers like Gratuitous Violence, mass tramplers like Pathbreaker Ibex, and combat payoffs like Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar to distribute lethal damage across the entire table. While the deck boasts guaranteed access to its core win condition through the command zone, it relies on natural draws for card replenishment and protection spells, leaving its high-cost threats exposed to well-timed spot removal and sweepers.
