Deck overview

This Mardu deck, led by Mathas, Fiend Seeker, operates as a political Aikido and forced-combat control strategy. Rather than racing opponents with fast combo finishes or aggressive creature swarms, the deck establishes defensive attack taxes through cards like Ghostly Prison, Windborn Muse, and Archon of Absolution to make attacking the pilot prohibitively expensive. It then uses widespread goad effects such as Disrupt Decorum, Kardur, Doomscourge, Alexios, Deimos of Kosmos, and Nelly Borca, Impulsive Accuser to force opponents to crash their armies into one another. While opponents deplete their life totals and board presence, the deck accumulates cards through Mathas bounty counters and Trouble in Pairs. When opponents attempt to strike back, instant-speed damage reflection spells like Inkshield, Deflecting Palm, and Comeuppance turn opposing power into lethal counterattacks, smoothly closing out the game against the last surviving player.
