Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black Aristocrats combo-control deck commanded by Yawgmoth, Thran Physician. Its primary strategy focuses on deploying resilient, low-cost creatures and recurring token generators in the early turns, establishing Yawgmoth on Turn 4 to convert creatures and life into card advantage and board control. By leveraging the rules interaction between -1/-1 counters and +1/+1 counters, Yawgmoth turns two undying creatures—such as Butcher Ghoul and Geralf's Messenger—into a repeatable sacrifice loop. Paired with a drain piece like Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat, this loop drains all three opponents to zero life in a single turn. The deck excels at dominating creature-heavy pods through continuous asymmetric attrition from Grave Pact and targeted shrinking. Its primary vulnerabilities are a complete inability to remove problematic enchantments or artifacts, susceptibility to graveyard-hate effects like Rest in Peace, and modest protection against well-timed instant-speed creature removal.
