Deck overview

This Simic Merfolk deck is commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. It executes a focused kindred aggro-midrange strategy that blends aggressive creature development with explosive card advantage and counter growth. In the early game, the deck deploys low-cost Merfolk to establish a wide board presence. Once Hakbal hits the battlefield, every Merfolk explores at the start of combat, rapidly buffing power, drawing lands, and smoothing subsequent draws. The deck converts this board presence into lethal combat pressure through unblockable evasion provided by Herald of Secret Streams, Master of the Pearl Trident, and Mist Dancer, or via one-sided board clearing with Wave Goodbye. While it lacks instant-speed stack interaction and compact infinite combos, its dense redundancy, resilient card velocity, and robust recovery tools make it a consistent combat threat in casual and optimized Commander pods.
