Deck overview

This mono-black deck combines aggressive creature swarm tactics with an explosive artifact combo engine centered around thirty copies of Rat Colony. Commanded by Rat King, Verminister, the deck quickly populates the battlefield with scaling Rat threats while leveraging sacrifice synergies and continuous end-step token production. Its primary route to victory is resolving Thrumming Stone on Turn 4 or 5, which uses ripple 4 to chain through the library and deploy twenty or more Rat Colony creatures in a single turn. Backed by evasion enablers like Cover of Darkness and Piper of the Swarm, the resulting army delivers lethal combat damage across the table on Turn 6. Asymmetric attrition pieces such as Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos systematically strip opposing creature boards, while black tutors ensure consistent access to key payoffs. Even if the board is wiped, Rat King, Verminister, Echoing Return, and Patriarch's Bidding provide rapid mass reanimation to immediately rebuild the swarm.
