Deck overview

This is a black-red "pay-life, burn them with it" deck helmed by Rowan, Scion of War, whose activated ability turns life lost earlier in a turn into massive mana discounts on black and/or red spells. The deck leans into pain lands, self-damaging engines, and Dark Tutelage-style life-loss card draw to fuel Rowan, then deploys doubled-damage effects like Obosh, the Preypiercer, Angrath's Marauders, and Dictate of the Twin Gods to turn burn spells into table-killing haymakers. The primary win is a big discount turn: pay life, activate Rowan, cast a huge Fiery Gambit, Brass's Bounty, or multi-target burn spell, then multiply the damage through damage-doubling permanents. Secondary paths include painstaking incremental burn from Guttersnipe, Fiery Inscription, and Wizard tokens, plus explosive mana generation via Neheb, the Eternal, Mana Geyser, and Jaya Ballard. The deck is a glass-cannon value-burn hybrid: it wants to convert its own life total into tempo and then finish before the table stabilizes.
