Deck overview

Sauron, the Dark Lord spearheads a potent Grixis midrange and control strategy centered around the Amass Orcs mechanic, Wraith synergies, and the Ring's temptation. The deck aims to deploy early artifact ramp to cast its 6-mana commander ahead of curve on Turn 4 or 5. Once on the battlefield, Sauron punishes opponents for casting spells by passively building a massive Orc Army token. When this Army connects in combat—often made unblockable through the Level 1 Ring-bearer ability or The Black Gate—Sauron triggers a fresh four-card wheel, generating immense card velocity and burying opponents in card advantage. Backed by a premier suite of free and efficient countermagic such as Fierce Guardianship and Force of Will, alongside disruptive stax pieces like Notion Thief and Orcish Bowmasters, the deck controls the table before concluding the game with lethal combat damage, token swarms from Lord of the Nazgûl, or explosive finishers like Assault on Osgiliath.
