Deck overview

This deck is a classic Mardu Aikido control build led by Queen Marchesa. Rather than racing to build an overwhelming board state, the strategy uses politics, pillowfort permanents, and goad effects to turn opponents' strength against one another. Early turns focus on establishing mana rocks and small deterrents like Blind Obedience and Esper Sentinel. Once Queen Marchesa introduces the Monarch, the deck uses deathtouch blockers and goad Auras to keep the crown while opponents trade life totals. When an opponent attempts a decisive lethal attack, instant-speed combat traps like Inkshield, Comeuppance, and Deflecting Palm punish the aggressor and create a game-ending counter-attack. A robust reanimation package ensures that key utility creatures and political engines can easily return from the graveyard to close out the late game.
