Deck overview

This deck is a Simic Merfolk tribal aggro-control deck centered on Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca. The strategy develops a dense board of low-cost Merfolk to fuel Kumena's activated abilities, generating steady card advantage and distributing +1/+1 counters across the team. As the board expands, tribal lords such as Master of the Pearl Trident, Merfolk Sovereign, and Merrow Reejerey grant power buffs and evasion through Islandwalk and unblockable effects. Untap synergies like Murkfiend Liege and Quest for Renewal break Kumena's tap mechanics by allowing activations on every player's turn. Defensive tools like Propaganda, Arboria, and Kopala, Warden of Waves slow opposing aggression while counterspells protect key development. The deck wins by attacking with an unblockable, counter-boosted Merfolk army over multiple combat steps, eliminating opponents while maintaining hand size through combat-damage triggers and commander activations.
