Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul is a single-faced commander who turns the whole deck into an explore engine. The primary plan is to develop a wide Merfolk board, use Hakbal's combat-step explorations to pile +1/+1 counters and keep land drops coming, then close with unblockable commander damage. Secondary paths are a counter-based Simic Ascendancy win and a go-wide evasive swarm via Herald of Secret Streams, Mist Dancer, and Thassa. There is no hidden commander; Seahunter, Emperor Mihail II, and Realmwalker act as effective 'extra copies' of the key Merfolk pieces. The deck plays as a tempo/value aggro deck with light protection and no deterministic infinite combos.
