Format: Commander

Commander: Byrke, Long Ear of the Law

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Selesnya +1/+1 counters deck built around forcing combat math that opponents cannot survive. Byrke, Long Ear of the Law is the force multiplier: once he resolves, every attacking creature with a +1/+1 counter doubles its counters, and the list is packed with ways to put counters on the whole team at once - Cathars' Crusade, Anduril, Narsil Reforged, Virtue of Loyality, Felidar Retreat, Doubling Season, The Earth Crystal, and Innkeeper's Talent. The deck wins through exponential combat growth rather than infinite combos, using evasion from Abzan Falcner, Sigarda's Summons, Champion of Lambholt, and trample sources to push damage through. A heavy damage-prevention package - Vigor, Sekki, Seasons' Guide, the Phantom creatures, Ironscale Hydra - makes the board abnormally durable in combat. Proliferate effects and the "corrupted" mana from Glistening Sphere give it a slow alt- win dimension. Ultimately, it is a battlecruiser that trades early speed for inevitabilty in the red zone.
