Deck overview

This Athreos, God of Passage deck is a synergistic Orzhov aristocrats and attrition engine designed to grind down opponents through recurring death triggers, life drain, and asymmetric board control. The deck leverages efficient early-game creatures and mana rocks to establish Athreos, God of Passage alongside sacrifice outlets such as Bartolomé del Presidio, Priest of Forgotten Gods, and Baron Bertram Graywater. Each creature death forces opponents into a difficult tax: pay 3 life or allow the creature to return to your hand for repeated value. Mid-game control pieces like Grave Pact, The Meathook Massacre, and Painful Quandary restrict opposing development while draining life totals in compounding increments. Card advantage from Skullclamp and Phyrexian Arena keeps the hand refueled, while protective spells like Grand Abolisher and Divine Resilience safeguard crucial setup turns. Without relying on infinite combos, the deck achieves victory through relentless attrition and inescapable drain.
