Format: Commander

Commander: Fire Lord Azula

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Grixis spellslinger combat deck helmed by Fire Lord Azula. The primary game plan is to deploy Azula, attack while generating red mana via her firebending ability, and then cast instants and sorceries during combat to copy them, building storm count, generating treasure tokens, and dealing direct damage. The deck wins through either commander damage from a pumped and double-striking Azula, or through mass pings from Guttersnipe, Firebrand Archer, and Erebor Flamesmith combined with spell copying. Thousand-Year Storm and Etali, Primal Storm provide explosive value turns. The curve is low (2.74 average MV without lands) and the deck leans heavily on its commander's trigger to function at full speed, but it can still operate as a generic spellslinger pile if Azula is repeatedly removed.
