Deck overview

This mono-blue control list is piloted by Matoya, Archon Elder, turning every scry and surveil action into pure card draw. Early turns focus on establishing 2-CMC mana ramp and dropping Matoya on curve. The deck quickly builds immense card velocity using low-cost scry cantrips, airborne surveil creatures, and magecraft engines. Backed by a premier suite of free and efficient countermagic such as Force of Will, Fierce Guardianship, and Mana Drain, the deck safely navigates the midgame while disrupting opposing threats. Its primary finish resolves on Turn 6 via Mind Over Matter paired with Curator of Mysteries, allowing you to discard a card to scry and immediately draw a card in an infinite loop. This generates unbounded mana to deploy Hullbreaker Horror, wipe all opposing nonland permanents, and establish an absolute hard lock on the table with zero response cycles.
