Deck overview

Vren, the Relentless pilots a Dimir Rat-tribal attrition deck that converts board control into a snowballing swarm. Vren exiles every creature an opponent would lose and repurposes each exile into a 1/1 black Rat at your end step, so the deck is packed with edicts and sacrifice outlets - Sheoldred's Edict, Vona's Hunger, Innocent Blood, Make an Example, Dictate of Erebos, Attrition, Ashnod's Altar - turning each removal spell into both a board advantage and a rat generator. The swarm is force-multiplied by Marrow-Gnawer, Pack Rat, and Rat Colony, given evasion by Cover of Darkness and Marrow-Gnawer's fear, and converted into reach by Mirkwood Bats, Ayara, First of Locthwain, and Valley Rotcaller. Karumonix, the Rat King even offers a poison finish. Mass recursion in Revenge of the Rats and Haunting Voyage rebuilds after wipes. The deck is built around Vren's payoff, but the rat shell can grind out a win without him.
