Deck overview

This deck is a high-velocity Mono-Black Reanimator strategy commanded by Balthor the Defiled. It leverages explosive mana acceleration—including Dark Ritual, Culling the Weak, Lake of the Dead, and Sol Ring—to rapidly deploy self-mill engines and targeted entomb effects such as Buried Alive and Morality Shift. The primary objective is assembling a critical mass of black creatures in the graveyard, then activating Balthor for {B}{B}{B} to return every creature to the battlefield simultaneously. This mass reanimation triggers lethal life loss via Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Ayara, First of Locthwain, amplified to lethal thresholds by Bloodletter of Aclazotz and granted immediate combat capability through Mogis's Marauder. Beyond the combo finish, the deck exerts heavy asymmetric attrition through Oppression, Mindslicer, Dauthi Voidwalker, and Grave Pact, which dismantle opposing hands and boards while turning symmetric discard into card advantage.
