Deck overview

This deck is a Mono-Black Big Mana strategy helmed by Maga, Traitor to Mortals, designed to generate large volumes of black mana and convert it into decisive life-loss finishers and table attrition. The primary game plan revolves around utilizing land searchers like Expedition Map and universal tutors like Demonic Tutor to assemble Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Once operational on Turn 5, this engine fuels devastating X-spells, primarily Torment of Hailfire or a lethal Maga, Traitor to Mortals cast. In addition to direct life loss, the deck packs potent asymmetric disruption, including the hard lock of Maralen of the Mornsong combined with Opposition Agent, which completely cuts opponents off from drawing cards. While the deck boasts strong midgame inevitability and recursion through Takenuma, Abandoned Mire and Beacon of Unrest, it relies heavily on sorcery-speed execution and possesses limited instant-speed protection outside of Imp's Mischief.
