Deck overview

This Golgari deck is helmed by Grist, the Hunger Tide, a unique planeswalker that counts as a 1/1 Insect creature card in all non-battlefield zones. The strategy revolves around casting Grist early on Turn 2 or 3 to continuously churn out 1/1 Insect creature tokens while milling creature cards into the graveyard. Grist serves as both an engine and repeatable spot removal, sacrificing expendable tokens to eliminate key opposing creatures and planeswalkers. The midgame transitions into compounding wide-board pressure with cards like The Swarmweaver, Hornet Queen, and Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis, or converting creature tokens into mana with Elven Chorus. The deck closes games around Turn 8 through overrun combat buffs like Overcome, Grist's −5 direct graveyard life-loss ultimate, or by assembling an unexpected compact infinite life-drain combo using Witherbloom Apprentice and Chain of Smog.
