Deck overview

This deck is a Mardu political control and aikido strategy commanded by Mathas, Fiend Seeker. It directs opposing aggression away from itself through bounty incentives, goad mechanics, and damage-reflection traps. In the early game, the deck establishes mana velocity with two-mana rocks and deploys Mathas to mark high-value opposing creatures with bounty counters. As opponents battle each other, the deck maintains parity using efficient removal like Withering Torment and card draw from Trouble in Pairs and Prosper, Tome-Bound. In the mid-to-late game, the deck accelerates table damage using Descent into Avernus and punishes aggressive swings with reactive aikido spells like Deflecting Palm, Comeuppance, and Take the Bait. It closes games by combining damage reflectors such as Brash Taunter and Stuffy Doll with high-damage board wipes like Blasphemous Act, or by dropping asymmetric bombs like Captive Audience and Bolas's Citadel to eliminate the final surviving opponents.
