Deck overview

This deck is a Golgari Insect tribal and aristocrats deck led by Grist, the Hunger Tide. Grist counts as a 1/1 Insect creature card in all non-battlefield zones, allowing the deck to maintain high creature density. The primary strategy focuses on deploying 1-drop mana dorks to cast Grist on Turn 2 or Turn 3, using Grist's +1 loyalty ability to simultaneously mill creature cards and generate a swarm of 1/1 Insect tokens. As the graveyard fills with creatures, undergrowth payoffs such as Izoni, Thousand-Eyed, Aatchik, Emerald Radian, and Hornet Queen generate massive boards of tokens. These tokens are converted into lethal damage or life drain through combat buffs like The Swarmweaver, drain triggers from Fumulus, the Infestation, or Grist's −5 ultimate ability. The deck features strong permanent removal and graveyard recursion via Zask, Skittering Swarmlord, but remains vulnerable to mass creature sweepers and targeted graveyard exile.
