Deck overview

This Dimir control and aristocrats deck is commanded by Vren, the Relentless. Its core strategy revolves around symmetric sacrifice effects (edicts) that force all players to sacrifice creatures. While opponents lose their board, Vren's static ability permanently exiles their creatures, preventing death triggers and graveyard recursion. At each end step, Vren replaces those lost creatures with a growing swarm of Relentless Rat tokens that scale in power and toughness for each Rat you control. Backed by cheap instant-speed recursion spells, the deck protects its commander and continuously triggers edict creatures like Fleshbag Marauder and Plaguecrafter. Once the board is established, evasion enablers like Cover of Darkness and tribal payoffs like Marrow-Gnawer convert the wide board of massive Rats into lethal combat damage over two turn cycles, while Contamination offers an oppressive mana lock.
