Deck overview

This deck is an aggressive Izzet Voltron and extra combat engine commanded by Karlach, Fury of Avernus and Sword Coast Sailor. The strategy leverages the command zone to eliminate combat variance entirely: Sword Coast Sailor guarantees unblockable attacks against the player with the highest life total, while Karlach automatically doubles combat steps and grants first strike each turn. Supported by efficient 1-to-2 CMC ramp and rituals, the deck deploys Karlach by Turn 4 and threatens decisive commander damage on Turn 5. Damage multipliers like Jeska, Thrice Reborn, Bulk Up, and Lizard Blades compress the kill clock, while Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar radiates single-target strikes across the entire table. A robust suite of free and low-cost protection spells—including Fierce Guardianship, Deflecting Swat, and Commander's Plate—shields Karlach from removal. Backup beaters like Etali, Primal Storm and Ancient Copper Dragon maintain formidable pressure if Karlach is delayed, delivering a relentless, combat-focused game plan.
