Deck overview

This Gruul deck is a classic battlecruiser Dragon tribal build commanded by Atarka, World Render. The game plan revolves around accelerating mana early with land ramp spells, mana rocks, and tribal cost reducers like Dragonspeaker Shaman and Urza's Incubator to cast large flying threats ahead of curve. Once a Dragon board is established, casting Atarka grants all attacking Dragons double strike, transforming mid-sized flyers into lethal threats and presenting 12 commander damage per swing. The deck complements its aerial pressure with direct damage triggers from Scourge of Valkas, Dragon Tempest, and Drakuseth, Maw of Flames to eliminate opposing blockers and control the board. While the deck possesses massive combat damage output and high threat redundancy, its high average mana value and sparse protection make it vulnerable to board wipes and well-timed spot removal.
