Deck overview

This mono-black deck blends classic aristocrats attrition with a compact, deterministic combo finish. Commanded by Avacyn, Angel of Horror, the deck largely treats its commander as an optional late-game recovery engine due to its steep mana cost. Instead, the list accelerates through black rituals like Dark Ritual and Cabal Ritual into potent card draw engines such as The One Ring, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, and Ayara, First of Locthwain. Opposing creature boards are continuously thinned using edict effects and Grave Pact. The primary win condition is the instant-kill loop between life-gain triggers and life-drain amplifiers, specifically Exquisite Blood paired with Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Sanguine Bond, or Enduring Tenacity, duplicated by Bloodthirsty Conqueror. While vulnerable to enchantment removal and counterspells due to mono-black's interaction limitations, the deck boasts remarkable redundancy, reliable card draw, and explosive turn-5 table finishes.
