Format: Commander

Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul is the engine of this Simic Merfolk deck rather than a one-shot finisher. The primary plan is to keep a wide, low-to-the-ground Merfolk board, let Hakbal's combat explore triggers put extra lands into play and grow counters, and then convert the board into a one-turn kill with Triumph of the Hordes or a mass-pumped attack. Secondary paths are Simic Ascendancy's counter win and Hakbal/commander-damage beats through Herald of Secret Streams or Rogue's Passage. Emperor Mihail II, Deeproot Waters, Path of Discovery, and Topography Tracker turn every cast/explore into tokens and cards. There is no hidden commander; every Merfolk, explore, and counter payoff points back to Hakbal.
