Deck overview

This is a Simic Merfolk +1/+1 counters deck built to turn Hakbal of the Surging Soul's combat-explore trigger into a scaling engine: every Merfolk on the battlefield digs one card deeper each combat, growing the team or filling the hand, while Hakbal's attack trigger ramps lands out of hand or draws. The plan is classic tribal tempo - deploy a redundant web of lords (Lord of Atlantis, Master of the Pearl Trident, Merfolk Mistbinder), generate hexproof token Merfolk with Deeproot Waters, then multiply the counter growth with Branching Evolution, Doubling Season, The Earth Crystal and Hardened Scales. The finish is an unblockable, counter-laden alpha strike via Herald of Secret Streams or islandwalk, with Simic Ascendancy as a proliferate-fueled alt-win. This is a midrange value deck with no infinite combos; it wins by out-valuing the table and then overwhelming it with an evasive board.
