Deck overview

This mono-blue Voltron deck utilizes Yargle, Goliath of Otaria as an imposing combat threat. By taking advantage of Yargle's massive printed 9 toughness, the deck uses power-and-toughness switching cards like Merfolk Thaumaturgist, Inversion Behemoth, and Twisted Image to transform defensive stats into an immediate 9-power offensive beatstick. Combined with damage multipliers like Inquisitor's Flail and Fireshrieker, toughness buffs like Slagwurm Armor and Captain America's Shield, or one-shot infect enablers like Grafted Exoskeleton, Yargle reliably eliminates opponents in single unblockable strikes. The supporting shell provides mana velocity through low-cost artifact ramp, robust selection through tutors like Fabricate and Tribute Mage, and layers of protection via Lightning Greaves, Commander's Plate, and cheap counterspells. While sequential combat eliminations give opponents two response cycles to mount an answer, backup threats like Armory Automaton and Inkmoth Nexus ensure resilience if the commander is removed.
