Deck overview

This deck pairs Volo, Itinerant Scholar with the Background Raised by Giants to turn creature type diversity into overwhelming card advantage and lethal commander combat. Volo generates Volo's Journal, which notes unique creature types as they enter the battlefield. By casting diverse creatures such as Merfolk, Elves, Faeries, Beasts, and Eldrazi, the Journal quickly logs multiple types. Volo then taps to draw large bursts of cards, compounded by untap engines like Kiora's Follower, Kelpie Guide, and Seedborn Muse. In the mid-game, resolving Raised by Giants transforms Volo into a 10/10 Giant Wizard. Equipped with evasion from Aqueous Form or double strike from Genji Glove, Volo eliminates opponents through commander damage within two turn cycles. Alternate win conditions include life drain from Psychosis Crawler and overrun attacks with Jolrael, Mwonvuli Recluse, all protected by flash-based defensive creatures and efficient countermagic.
