Format: Commander

Commander: Kaalia of the Vast

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This Mardu Kaalia build is a cheat-into-play combat deck. The commander's attack trigger puts a free Angel, Demon, or Dragon onto the battlefield tapped and attacking, and the deck is built to maximize that trigger with extra combat and global damage multipliers. Ancient Copper Dragon gives a one-turn Treasure burst; Aurelia and Scourge of the Throne generate repeated combats and repeated Kaalia triggers. Gisela, Blade of Goldnight and City on Fire turn large flyers into lethal swings, with Archfiend of Despair punishing the same damage again at end step. Secondary plans use Sneak Attack, Animate Dead, Reanimate, and Quicksilver Amulet to deploy the same threats without the commander. The deck has strong top-end redundancy but modest draw and a high curve, so it wants a clear path to a damage-doubling board or extra-combat chain.
