Deck overview

This is a mono-black Rat deck built around Marrow-Gnawer and a large package of Rat Colony. Its strongest line is the infinite token engine formed by equipping Thornbite Staff to Marrow-Gnawer. Sacrificing a Rat creates more Rats, and the Staff untaps the commander whenever the sacrificed Rat dies. The resulting army has fear and can attack for lethal on turn 8 in a strong ordinary execution. The list has excellent mana acceleration and unusually strong tutor access, but the primary setup is still vulnerable because it needs a commander, Equipment, equip mana, Rat fodder, and a turn before combat. Contamination provides an earlier asymmetric mana restriction when the deck can feed it creatures. Skullclamp, Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm, Karumonix, the Rat King, and Black Market Connections provide card flow, while Toxic Deluge and Deadly Rollick cover creature-based threats. The deck is powerful and explosive, but its limited stack interaction and permanent-dependent finish keep it in the general category rather than cEDH construction.
