Deck overview

This deck is a Grixis spellslinger strategy led by Kess, Dissident Mage. It focuses on chaining low-cost instants, sorceries, and buyback spells to trigger a dense suite of burn pingers such as Guttersnipe, Fiery Inscription, and Erebor Flamesmith. The deck uses cost reducers and mana engines like Storm-Kiln Artist and Urabrask to maintain mana velocity, while Kess allows every spell in the graveyard to be cast a second time. Once an engine is established around Turn 5, the deck unleashes multi-spell turns on Turn 6, dealing heavy noncombat damage to all opponents simultaneously. It can close games on Turn 7 through a follow-up flurry or by achieving an infinite storm and mana loop with Storm-Kiln Artist and Haze of Rage. While weak to graveyard hate and lacking free countermagic, its high density of interchangeable burn and card draw payoffs gives it strong redundancy.
