Deck overview

This Golgari deck leverages Witherbloom, the Balancer to convert wide creature boards into massive affinity discounts for instant and sorcery spells. In the opening turns, it establishes a dense web of mana dorks and token engines including Scute Swarm, Priest of Titania, and Insidious Roots. Once 4 to 6 creatures are deployed, the commander hits the battlefield for as little as two mana, immediately granting affinity to spells in hand. This enables explosive turns where card draw engines like Stinging Study cost a single black mana to draw eight cards, and win conditions like Torment of Hailfire, Exsanguinate, and Preposterous Proportions are cast for devastatingly low mana investments. Backup mana engines like Circle of Dreams Druid and Growing Rites of Itlimoc ensure the deck can hardcast its massive finishers even if the commander is removed.
