Deck overview

This Esper Zombie deck is commanded by Varina, Lich Queen, focusing on an aggressive aristocrats and reanimation strategy. The deck curves low-cost Zombies into Varina on Turn 4, leveraging her combat trigger to sculpt the hand, stock the graveyard with recursive threats, and gain life. It capitalizes on heavy tribal synergy through lords like Undead Warchief and Death Baron, token generators like Diregraf Colossus and Headless Rider, and potent payoff engines such as Bone Miser and Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver. The primary win conditions revolve around explosive mass reanimation with Living Death, high-devotion life drain from Gray Merchant of Asphodel, or repeatable sacrifice loops utilizing Gravecrawler, Phyrexian Altar, or Warren Soultrader paired with drain triggers from Corpse Knight, Wayward Servant, and Diregraf Captain. While the deck features outstanding recovery from board wipes due to dense graveyard recursion, it carries minimal reactive stack protection and remains susceptible to dedicated graveyard hate.
