Deck overview

This mono-black control deck pairs devastating resource attrition with explosive big-mana payoffs. Led by Valgavoth, Terror Eater, the deck uses multi-target sacrifice edicts, spot removal, and hand disruption to deplete opposing boards while building a deep mana pool. Early turns focus on establishing mana rocks and card-draw engines like Braids, Arisen Nightmare and Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools. By the mid-game, mana multipliers such as Crypt Ghast, Cabal Coffers, and K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth propel the deck into its signature threats: Bolas's Citadel, Breach the Multiverse, and Valgavoth, Terror Eater. Valgavoth acts as an asymmetric graveyard void, exiling opposing cards and casting them for life. The deck closes games through massive life drain via Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Exsanguinate, or through overwhelming combat damage from reanimated threats. High redundancy and recursive engines provide resilient mid-to-late game staying power.
