Deck overview

This is a general-power Toph, the First Metalbender landfall deck. Toph, the First Metalbender turns an existing land into a temporary creature at each end step, and the list uses that land movement with Scute Swarm, Tireless Provisioner, Lotus Cobra, Sabotender, and Tannuk, Memorial Ensign. Artifact lands and cards such as Liquimetal Coating, Liquimetal Torque, Ichor Wellspring, and Wake the Past add a secondary artifact package. The deck has respectable ramp and several useful tutors, but its primary threats require multiple turns to become lethal. It lacks a deterministic win, broad stack interaction, and a persistent lock. Its best ordinary game is to develop mana, deploy Toph, the First Metalbender and a landfall payoff, then build a wide board while using selective protection. Scute Swarm is the strongest scaling threat, but it is vulnerable before it produces a decisive number of tokens and does not naturally provide haste or evasion.
