Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul leads a tempo-oriented Merfolk deck. His combat explore trigger turns every attacking Merfolk into repeatable card advantage and +1/+1-counter growth, letting the deck flood the board and filter into lands or spells. Primary plan is to curve a lord-heavy Merfolk swarm, make it unblockable through islandwalk or Herald of Secret Streams, and finish with a mass pump. Secondary path is a compact infinite combo: Deeproot Pilgrimage, Intruder Alarm, Kiora's Follower, and Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca generate infinite mana, Merfolk tokens, and counters. Kumena doubles as the deck's hidden engine/outlet, but there is no second commander face. The deck operates well without Hakbal, though his velocity is missed.
