Deck overview

This is a Simic Merfolk combat deck built around Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The primary plan is to deploy cheap Merfolk, let Hakbal turn combat into an explore session for the whole team, and pile +1/+1 counters onto a wide board. Hakbal is also a land-ramp and draw piece: his attack trigger puts extra lands into play or replaces a land with a card. Secondary paths include Kumena's full-board pump and draw, plus Simic Ascendancy as an independent counter win. There is no hidden commander or double-faced commander to switch to; the deck intentionally stacks cards that make Hakbal's explore triggers faster, wider, or more punishing.
