Deck overview

Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls leads a Rakdos Group Slug deck that converts regular game actions into widespread life loss and compounding card advantage. The strategy establishes cheap, continuous damage sources such as Roiling Vortex, Razorkin Needlehead, and Underworld Dreams before casting Valgavoth on Turn 3 or 4. Once active, Valgavoth draws three net cards per turn cycle while expanding into a massive flying threat. The deck accelerates into a lethal midgame clock on Turn 5 by deploying damage doublers and severe resource taxes like Manabarbs, Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, Spellshock, and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse. These effects suppress life totals and stop life gain. The deck closes the game around Turn 7 through scaling commander damage, symmetric sweeps like Chandra's Ignition, or the infinite damage loop of Ob Nixilis, Captive Kingpin and All Will Be One, backed by targeted protection spells.
